Today in the Shodor Scholars Program, Jeff Krause teaches the students about the applications, Agent Sheets and Microsoft Excel. Agent Sheets is a model-based application, which allows the user to create agents and edit their behaviors and generate a life-like effect; while Microsoft Excel is an application that allows the user to import and model their data. The students go hands-on to collect their data, creating a model of an M&M population.
In the second half of the class, the students return to their Agent Sheets model to check minute errors. Jeff then instructs them on how to export their data from Agent Sheets, and import is to Microsoft Excel. The students learn a lot in Excel, such as making graphs from data, command and action attributes, and smaller matters such as using the Formatting Palette to adjust the fonts and margins of the page.
